I'm really on this age-inappropriate perfume kick lately. I'm only marginally ashamed about it. Recently I went out and intentionally smelled almost every fragrance that's been released by a pop star in the past 4 years. JLo Glow After Dark stood out because it smells the way champagne would if it were a perfume, and the bottle is shiny and wearing a necklace that looks like it came from the Fredrick's of Hollywood Catalog. It's not classy, but the sweet boozy notes are hard to resist and the whole package just looks and smells like a really good time. Added bonus: you can usually find the larger 3.4 oz bottle for $30 or so online.

Stella in Two Peony is actually one half of a two part Oriental Floral fragrance released by McCartney in 2006. The idea is that the Peony and Amber (the Peony's counterpart) can be layered or worn separately. I do not have a sample of the Amber solid that would be a second part of this fragrance, only a 1.2 mL sample of the Peony EDT.

I'll admit, I prejudged it a bit because I care zero about what any McCartney is doing at all, ever. However, it turns out that Stella has been making a Peony fragrance that is slightly sweet, very floral, and extremely feminine. It's exactly what I imagine men in their 20s and 30s want women in their 20s and 30s to smell like during sex. I could be wrong, but probably not.

This fragrance is available at almost every online perfume store I've checked, and it looks like the going rate is between $30 and $50 for a 1.6 oz. bottle.

This fragrance was one I acquired because of a recent household obsession with salt notes. It's a floral, but it smells the way myrtle would if you were smelling it on a breeze blowing over the sea. You can get it from L'Occitane for $66, but  every once in a while I'll see it elsewhere on the internet for approximately half that price.

Hands down my favorite iris fragrance ever made. It's spicy, fresh, and floral with a little bergamot for good measure. It actually smells purple. It also smells like spring. It is also really expensive, averaging about $100 for a 1.7 oz. bottle. However, if you've got money to throw around and you want to smell rich but also like the first day of spring, Iris Nobile is for you.

At $11.00 for a 5mL bottle of handcrafted perfume oil, you can afford to buy this sweet, voodoo love spell blindly. Visit Wiggle Perfume's Etsy Shop to purchase. Sakura and Penelope are other favorites of mine.

See my review from March 2, 2010 for scent details. This one is pricey at retail, but if you're willing to do some legwork, you can usually find a 1.7oz (50mL) bottle for around $45.

I think it's universally known among all perfume lovers that Tom Ford is a bonafide prick but makes a fine perfume. Champaca Absolute is from his Private Collection series and is therefore insanely expensive. Luckily, this lovely white floral with a hint of sandalwood is a popular decant ( a partial bottle that costs a lot less money but does not come in its original packaging). It claims to be unisex, but it's very feminine and I would never recommend this for a man.

Try looking for decants or samples of this one on ebay, or start hanging out on MakeupAlley and make some friends. $20-$30 seems to be the going rate for a 5-10 mL decant at the moment.
